K9 Veterans Day: The reasons to honor these heroes

The history of K9 Veterans Day

First more about the history of K9 Veterans Day. The day was established to commemorate the start of United States K9 Corps on March 13, 1942. Since 1942 a lot of military working dogs have served the country. They served in various capacities. Think of sniffing out bombs and tracking down enemies. All K9 companions have become an indispensable part of the military and law enforcement teams. All around the world. K9 soldiers have fought alongside troops in multiple wars. Some of the wars: World War II and the Vietnam War. Their ability to sense danger, track enemies, and provide companionship to soldiers has made them an invaluable asset on the battlefield. While saving others they often risked their own in the process.

The role of these working dogs

Military working dogs are trained for a variety of tasks. All these tasks help keep their handlers and fellow soldiers safe. One of their tasks is Explosive Detection. They have to identify hidden bombs and landmines. This way then can prevent their human soldiers from getting hurt. The same goes for Drug and Contraband Detection. The K9s help prevent illegal substances from entering secure locations. They also have a roll in Combat Support. Our K9 Veterans track down enemy forces and assist in tactical operations. And last but not least, they help in search and rescue. When personnel gets missing, they help locate by nose work.
