Connecting K9 is proud to offer official AKC evaluations in Alexandria (LA) for puppies and adult dogs. Whether you are working toward a title through group classes, private training, or evaluation-only testing, we provide clear, fair, and professional assessments. AKC titles are a great way to set goals, track progress, and build a stronger relationship with your dog — but participation in training is not required to test with us.

 

AKC Titles we evaluate

At Connecting K9, we offer evaluations for multiple American Kennel Club (AKC) programs.

 

AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

AKC Community Canine (CGCA – Advanced)

AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU – Urban)

 

These evaluations test real-world manners, obedience, and responsible dog ownership.

 

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy

Designed for puppies and first-time owners, the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program focuses on:

 

• Basic training behaviors

• Owner education

• Socialization and responsible ownership

 

AKC Trick Dog

Trick Dog titles reward teamwork, creativity, and engagement. Titles range from beginner to advanced levels and can be earned through performance-based demonstrations.

 

AKC Fit Dog

AKC Fit Dog titles focus on physical activity, conditioning, and healthy movement routines for dogs and handlers.

 

AKC Virtual Home Manners

Available for Puppies & Adult Dogs.

Virtual Home Manners titles evaluate calm, appropriate behavior in everyday home environments.

 

How AKC evaluations work at Connecting K9

We offer multiple ways to complete AKC evaluations, depending on the title and your preference.

 

Through group classes

Many AKC evaluations are included or offered at the end of our group training classes. This option is ideal if you want structured preparation leading up to the test. You’ll follow the same group classes as people that don’t do the AKC titles, but then with extra guidance to meet the requirements.

 

Through private training

AKC evaluations can also be completed during private training sessions, allowing for:

 

• Personalized preparation

• Flexible scheduling

• One-on-one guidance

• Evaluation-Only Appointments

 

If your dog is already trained, you may schedule an evaluation-only appointment without enrolling in training.

 

Video submission evaluations

The following AKC titles can be completed via video or proof of completion submission:

• AKC Trick Dog

• AKC Fit Dog

• AKC Virtual Home Manners

 

Owners may submit videos for evaluation following AKC guidelines. This option is ideal for those who prefer to test remotely or on their own schedule.

 

In-Person evaluation appointments

The following titles require an in-person evaluation if not completed during group classes or private training:

• AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC, Advanced, Urban)

• AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy

 

These evaluations are completed by appointment at Connecting K9.

 

Preparation is key

You do not need to train with Connecting K9 to take an AKC evaluation with us. However, it is the owner’s responsibility to ensure their dog is prepared for the test criteria.

 

We are happy to:

• Review requirements

• Recommend preparation options

• Help you decide whether training or evaluation-only is the best fit

 

While it’s not required to do the training with us, it is recommended to train your dog to earn the titles. These evaluations can be difficult for both owner and dog, especially the manners around people and dogs.
