General Questions

What is Connecting K9?

Connecting K9 is a professional dog training and boarding facility in Alexandria, Louisiana. We work with dogs of all breeds, ages, and backgrounds, focusing on clear communication, structure, and strengthening the bond between dogs and their owners.

What types of dogs do you work with?

We work with puppies (from 12 weeks old), adolescents, and adult dogs of all breeds and sizes. Whether your dog is brand new to training or needs more advanced work, we have options to meet your goals.

Do you use punishment-based training?

No. Our training approach is balanced, fair, and results-driven. We focus on clear communication, consistency, motivation, and accountability while prioritizing the dog’s mental well-being and long-term success.

Private Training Sessions

What are private training sessions?

Private sessions are one-on-one lessons tailored to you and your dog. These sessions focus on your specific goals, such as basic obedience, leash manners, behavior issues, or advanced skills.

How long is a private session?

Each private training session is 1 hour.

What is the cost of private training?

  • Single session: $50 per hour

  • Package: 10 sessions for $480

Where do private sessions take place?

Sessions may take place at our facility, in public environments, or at another agreed-upon location depending on your training goals.

Board & Train Programs

What is a Board & Train program?

In a Board & Train program, your dog stays with us for training while learning structured obedience, manners, and behavior skills. Training is combined with daily routines, enrichment, and clear expectations.

Are owners involved in Board & Train?

Yes—owner involvement is essential. We provide progress updates, transfer sessions, and guidance to ensure you can maintain and build on your dog’s training once they return home.

Is Board & Train right for every dog?

Board & Train can be very effective, but it is not a shortcut. Success depends on follow-up training and consistency from the owner. We are honest about whether this option is appropriate for your dog and goals.

Group Obedience Classes

What are group obedience classes?

Our group classes are ongoing obedience classes designed to help dogs learn and practice skills around real-life distractions while working with their owners.

What dogs can join group classes?

  • Dogs 12 weeks of age and older

  • Dogs must be fully up to date on vaccinations

  • Dogs must be safe to work around people and other dogs

Do you offer puppy-specific options?

Yes. Puppies can participate in group classes and may work toward earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy title.

Are AKC titles available through group classes?

Yes. During our group classes, owners have the opportunity to work toward:

  • AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy

  • AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

Testing is offered when teams are ready and meet the AKC requirements.

AKC Programs

What is AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy?

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is a program focused on socialization, basic training, and responsible ownership for puppies. It’s a great foundation for future training.

What is the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title?

The CGC title evaluates a dog’s manners and obedience in real-world situations. It is often a stepping stone to therapy work, advanced training, or housing requirements.

Do I need to be an AKC member to participate?

No, AKC membership is not required to train or test for these titles.

Boarding & Enrichment

Do you offer boarding?

Yes. We offer boarding with structure, routines, and enrichment to support your dog’s mental and physical well-being.

What is enrichment boarding?

Enrichment boarding focuses on more than just housing your dog. It includes activities such as scent work, problem-solving, confidence-building exercises, and appropriate social interaction.

Can my dog train while boarding?

Yes. Training add-ons may be available during boarding, depending on your dog’s needs and availability.

Health & Requirements

Are vaccinations required?

Yes. All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations before participating in training, group classes, or boarding.

What if my dog has behavioral challenges?

We regularly work with dogs who struggle with reactivity, impulse control, or anxiety. An evaluation may be required to determine the best and safest training plan.
